They are the same thing. Post-frame construction uses large engineered columns set below the frost line to carry trusses that span the full building width — no continuous foundation and no interior load-bearing walls. "Pole barn" is the older name for it.

The structure itself typically goes up in a matter of weeks once materials are on site. The longer part of the timeline is usually design, engineering, and township permitting — plan 6 to 12 weeks from signed quote to a finished shell, depending on season and permit office.
Can you build a pole barn in the winter in Michigan?
Yes. Post-frame is one of the few build methods that works through a Michigan winter — footings can be augered below frost and there is no continuous foundation to pour. Concrete flatwork is the piece that usually waits for spring, and post-frame lets you phase it.
Do you build the shell only, or finish the interior too?
Both. Many owners have us build the engineered shell — footings, framing, roof, siding, doors, windows — and finish the interior on their own schedule. We quote both ways so you can compare honestly instead of guessing.
